Graduate Certificates

Student wearing headlamp and coveralls in mineThe University of Arizona department of mining and geological engineering offers four graduate professional certificates in mining, both on-campus and online through UA Online Engineering:

  • Graduate Certificate in Geomechanics/Rock Mechanics
  • Graduate Certificate in Mining Occupational Safety and Health
  • Graduate Certificate in Mine Production and Information Technology
  • Graduate Certificate in Mineral Processing and Extractive Metallurgy

These certificates provide intensive courses of study with a focused, in-depth curriculum that can be completed in only one year, even while working full-time.

Admissions Requirements

Required Materials

  • Unofficial transcripts from all universities or colleges attended (official transcripts will be required upon admittance)
  • Resume
  • TOEFL scores (international applicants only)

Standardized Tests

  • TOEFL (international applicants only): minimum 550 on paper-based, or PB, test; OR minimum 79 on internet-based, or iBT, test
  • IELTS (international applicants only): minimum composite score of 7, with no subject area below 6

Financial Aid

Department funding is not available for certificate programs.

Admissions Deadlines

  • Fall: July 15
  • Spring: Nov. 15

International applicants, please note that the University of Arizona will not issue an I-20 for certificate programs of study.

International Conditional Admittance

International applicants may be considered for conditional admission to these programs at the department's discretion.
